SITA Polska and European infrastructure investment fund, the Marguerite Fund, has secured the first energy-from-waste public private partnership (PPP) in Poland

The city of Poznań named the joint venture between the Marguerite Fund and SITA Polska as preferred bidder in the first and largest PPP tender in the energy-from-waste sector in Poland.
The project will see the joint venture design, build, finance and operate a €176m municipal waste incineration plant.
The plant is expected to be commissioned in 2016 and would reduce the disposal of waste in local landfills, in accordance with the EU Landfill Directive and Poland's Waste Law.
Marguerite was established under the 2020 European Fund for Energy, Climate Change and Infrastructure with the backing of six of public financial institution Caisse des Dépôts et consignations, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, European Investment Bank, Instituto de Crédito Oficial, KfW, and PKO Bank Polski to make capital-intensive infrastructure investments.
It will be fully financed by shareholders of SITA Zielona Energia and a consortium of three banks - Pekao, PKO and Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego - which will provide long-term non-recourse project finance debt.
Nicolás Merigó, CEO of Marguerite Adviser: "We are very happy to win this landmark PPP transaction in Poland alongside SITA, a highly experienced industrial partner with an extensive track record in the energy-from-waste sector. This is Marguerite's second investment in Poland and the seventh overall."
