Bank Austria Centralizes Operations in Baltic Countries

The Austrian subsidiary of Italian UniCredit has shifted the units in Lithuania and Estonia to Latvia.

In future, the operations in the Baltic countries will be centralized in Latvia´s capital Riga. Above all, Bank Austria wants to cut redundancies and lower the costs. At the moment, the business units in the Czech Republic and Slovakia are being merged too. The two countries will be operated from Prague.
According to UniCredit, the centralization of the banking units in the Baltic countries will be finished in the next months. In September, the operating profit in the Baltic countries came at € 14m. In total, 185 persons are employed.
Besides that, UniCredit announced to sell 9.1% of the shares in the Polish bank Pekao. However, UniCredit remains the majority shareholder of Pekao. After the sale, UniCredit´s stake comes at 50.1%.
